"High Noon"
San Simeon, CA
During one of my photography journeys, I found myself at San Simeon Beach under the unforgiving blaze of midday sunlight. The iconic San Simeon Pier stood defiantly against the glare, offering a challenge that most photographers would avoid. Rather than retreat, I saw an opportunity to embrace the harsh lighting and transform it into a moment frozen in time black and white photograph I call “High Noon.”
I positioned myself so that the pier itself blocked the direct sunlight, creating dynamic shadows and emphasizing the interplay between light and dark. Choosing to render the scene in black and white, I sought to evoke a sense of nostalgia—a timeless memory of playing alone on the beach, with the rhythmic sound of waves crashing against the sand. The composition I choose conveys the emotion I aimed to capture: solitude wrapped in the warmth of childhood recollections of running along the beach.
By adapting my technique and challenging traditional approaches to beach photography, I turned adversity into an artistic triumph. “High Noon” stands as a reminder that even the harshest conditions can yield moments of beauty when seen through a creative lens.
