Right before the 2019 Super Bloom craze reached its peak, I was fortunate enough to leave work early and embark on a journey to Lake Elsinore, CA, to capture the beauty of California’s vibrant poppies in is photograph I call “Poppies.” My little aspiring photographer, my daughter Violet, joined me on this adventure. As we walk along the trail, our eyes widened in awe at the breathtaking display of vibrant spring colors blanketing the hills.

Though the skies were dull and the crowds made it challenging to find the perfect shot, we didn’t let that dampen our spirits. Instead, we embraced the moment and focused on the simple joy of being together. Despite the less-than-ideal conditions, we managed to capture an image that feels more like a dreamscape—a kaleidoscope of colors flowing over the rolling hills like an enchanting painting. This photograph will always serve as a cherished reminder of that unforgettable day and the bond we shared in the midst of nature’s beauty.
