How many memories of gazing from a pier, watching surfers weave through the waves, could fill an entire library of stories? In my photograph “Sea Divide,” I’m transported back to a summer day at the San Clemente Beach Pier in California. I stood there captivated, watching surfers patiently poised amidst the waves, waiting for the perfect ride. It was my father’s birthday—a cherished moment etched into my mind.

There’s something magical about viewing the shoreline from a pier stretching over the water. It’s almost like seeing the world from a bird’s-eye view. That day, the ocean had a tranquil sea-green hue, contrasting beautifully with the frothy white waves crashing below.
