Even though California is famous for its stunning beach sunsets, there’s something equally magical about experiencing a California sunrise. The morning after capturing a breathtaking sunset at Garrapata Beach in Big Sur, I returned to photograph the beach at sunrise and ended up with this image, “Waking Up in Cali.” When I look at it, I’m instantly transported back to that crisp, cool morning when the beach awoke with vibrant colors, filling me with awe.

If someone were to ask me what a California sunrise is like, this is the image I would proudly present. The rugged coastline, the rhythmic dance of the Pacific Ocean, the gentle sea breeze brushing against my face, and the cheerful chirping of birds overhead—all come together to create a glimpse of heaven on earth.
